Ruffino - Since 1877 - Award Winning Wines from the Heart of Tuscany
Ruffino was born in 1877 in Pontassieve from the intuition of two cousins, Ilario and Leopoldo. Their ambition is that the wine appreciated in their lands can also please those who do not have the good fortune to be able to taste it every day, and live, perhaps, very far.
It was an immediate and swirling success, built on the goodness of the wines and on an entrepreneurial foresight in the uncommon times. In fact, the Ruffino cousins' wine was immediately liked so much, so that in 1895 in Bordeaux the gold medal was awarded at the Chianti Ruffino.
Successes follow each other and already at the beginning of the twentieth century these successes lead to identify Ruffino as a synonym of Italian wine in the world through Chianti. These are the years of the birth of a true icon of Italian enology, Riserva Ducale, which in 1927 celebrates one of the most illustrious admirers of Ruffino, the Duke of Aosta who had chosen this wine to lay the tables of the court of the Italy King.
Riserva Ducale is just one of the imprints left by Ruffino in the history of Italian enology, also marked by the iconic fiasco, the bottle symbol of the entire category of Chianti, known in the world thanks to Chianti Ruffino.
1877 Chianti Riserva - D.O.C.G.
Ruffino has a great story to tell. A story made of Chianti, of long refinements and patient expectations. A story made up of visionary men who have opened roads in tradition, to renew it.
A story made of ideas that become wines and wines that become icons. Today this story brings us a protagonist: Chianti Riserva.
The venerable essence of Ruffino, this wine's inaugural vintage dates back to 1877. It stood as a trailblazer in the perpetual pursuit of the "ideal wine," a mantra embraced by the founding Ruffino cousins.
The grapes used to produce this wine come from the most famous wine-growing areas of the Chianti denomination. Altitude: 200-350 m. Soil: presence of galestro, a gray-colored rock that characterizes much of the soil in the Tuscany region.
History
The Chianti Vecchio, from its first year in production, was the first of 1877, a selection of the best Chianti, dedicated to consumption at special events: the birth of a male child, the Sunday lunch consumed together around the table. On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the Foundation, Ruffino decided to celebrate the pioneering vision of the founders, Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino, with the introduction of a Chianti Riserva DOCG whose chic and exquisitely retro look was inspired by its important " father ", the Old Chianti.
The Bottle
The first logo of Ruffino and the signature of the founders are shown on the capsule. On the top there is the writing Chianti Riserva. This capsule gives a sense of classicism and elegance.
The shape of the bottle is inspired by those of the past: the shoulder is more slender than the standard and creates a soft and delegating dialogue between the neck and the body of the bottle itself.
The label, embellished with laminae and embossing, has been developed with the ambition to recall the classic style of the historic Chianti Vecchio. Also on the label are the original Ruffino logo and the historical signature of the founders.
The stamp applied to the label celebrates the 140th anniversary of the foundation, which took place in 1877.
Chianti Riserva
Originally, Chianti generally indicated a Tuscan, white and red wine. Only since 1967 Chianti indicates a Tuscan red wine with a predominantly Sangiovese name.
Chianti is a wine produced in all the Tuscan provinces, but not within the geographical territory of Chianti, where the wines produced here are called Chianti Classico.
According to the production regulations, the Chianti Riserva must be vinified with at least 70% of Sangiovese and must be aged for at least 2 years.
