Asolo, headquarters of the Venetian Artisans Neck Mate, in the province of Treviso, proud holder of the Orange Flag that identifies the most beautiful villages of Italy. Elegantly laid down on the hills of the Treviso province and surrounded by a well preserved wall that culminates with the stronghold built by Ezzelino da Romano in the XII century. The defense of the city was reinforced during the domination of the Carraresi in the 1300's, but it is with the Venetian government that Asolo reached the height of its splendor.

The Venetian noble Caterina Cornaro, queen of Cyprus forced to abdicate in favor of Venice, chose the Castle of Asolo as her residence at the end of 1400, here the noblewoman started to host artists and literatus.

It is the age of "Gli Asolani" of Bembo and of Giorgione's paintings; in those days the defense of the city more than protecting a stronghold was procetcing the culture and art of the city, one of the most important intellectual centers on the Venetian mainland. Nowadays the wall can still be visited even if it was partially demolished during the Lombardo Veneto reign, whereas the castle has become a museum dedicated to Elenora Duse.
