Champagne Colin

Family House since 1829 - More than 7 Generations

The History - From The Foundation to Today

Champagne Colin is a family-run business that has been producing excellent champagnes for over seven generations.

Originally, the Champagne Colin vineyard spoke to women, but today it is headed by Richard and Romain Colin.

The passion for the vine and wine was born with Geneviève Prieur and Marie Louise Radet, their grandmothers, who had both inherited vines from their parents.

But we must go back to 1829 to find the first winemaker of the family: Constant Piéton (great-grandfather of Geneviève Prieur, maternal grandmother of Richard and Romain).

The company is located in the Côte des Blancs, in the village of Vertus and produces Champagne Blanc de Blancs Premier and Grand Cru.

The Terroir - Where Quality is Born

Most of the 10-hectare vineyard is planted with Chardonnay, and is located in the prestigious Côte des Blancs in Vertus, Bergères-les-Vertus and Cuis, classified as Premier Cru of Champagne, in Cramant and Oiry classified as Grand Cru.

A part is also planted with Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in the country of Sézanne.

As we know, however, in Champagne more than anywhere else, the terroir is indeed important, but the hand of man makes the real difference.

Production - The Know-How that Makes the Difference

For the Colin family, perfect technique is a dialogic relationship between tradition and innovation; the grapes harvested by hand and reached perfect ripeness, spend a few months in barrel, and each cru is vinified separately so as to express the character of each terroir.

In fact, a beautiful terroir is not enough, it is also necessary an ancestral know-how of the winemaker combined with modern techniques to create Champagne worthy of this name.

A traditional Coquard wooden press and a tire receive all the grapes harvested by hand and reached perfect ripeness. A few months' passage in cask also allows slow oxygenation of the wines.

The wines are aged on the lees for at least double the minimum required and more than 6 months after disgorgement. Each cru is vinified separately to allow the character of each of our terroirs to be expressed.

Thanks to this tradition of cultivation and processing, the Champagnes are extremely fine and elegant, typical of the great terroirs of the Côte des Blancs.
