African Traditions by Coltellerie Berti 1895

Traditions must be respected. Even those of others.

What binds the knives of the Berti cutlery to Africa? The Zebu. In fact, the horn handles of all our knives are made in Corno di Zebu. Only the African Zebu, working animals, are allowed to grow enough to develop horns of the necessary size to obtain, at the natural end of their life, worked objects.

The processing of the Zebu Horn is a long and demanding artisan process: slowly heated over low heat until it is finally malleable, the horn is then cut into the raw shape to be made. It is then heated again and inserted into the mold to obtain the final shape. It is then pressed for a few minutes. Finally it is immersed in cold water, to fix the desired shape. Then comes the polishing: first with coarse sandpaper; then fine-grained and moist ash, until the horn is shiny and bright.

A precious and beautiful material, wonderful on the table and in the kitchen: this is why we have selected this Collection of Accessories, handcrafted and entirely in Madagascar. Because Traditions must be respected: even those of others.

Coltellerie Berti - 1895

Handmade in Italy since 1895

History

Coltellerie Berti is the artisan production company of knives created in 1895 by David Berti, and which without interruption, for four generations, continues to produce knives in the same place, in Italy, and in the same strict observance of the Tradition of the Berti Artisan Method handed down within the Berti family.

Centenary Traditions

At Coltellerie Berti, each knife is produced by the hands of a single craftsman, of the same person. Whoever starts it finishes it.

This is the essence of the Berti Family's Artisan Method, which maintains the true joy of owning a real handcrafted knife in the wake of the most authentic Tradition, and work in a truly human condition.

Each model requires a new great effort to evaluate the amount of work which, in a never equal time, varies from craftsman to craftsman, and from day to day for the same craftsman.

Raw Materials

The materials are mainly steel for the blades, and horn full of ox and buffalo, boxwood for the handles.

All this represents the essence of the true Berti Artisan Method, which allows you to perceive, inside each knife, the thought, the hand and the presence of a specific person and of the Family Tradition.

Each knife tells about the specificity, quality and correctness of the cut and the consequent respect for ingredients, dishes and cooking work.

A Unique Production

The Berti tradition is respected by handing down and innovating the deposit of models, methods and skills that have been generated within the Berti family over the course of over a century of work.

Berti knives are a work of art, handmade knives of unique value.

The quality of these knives is as exceptional as the value of an object still created by hand by a craftsman who follows a tradition based on excellence.
