Kuboraum

Dreamed in Berlin Handmade in Italy

About Project - Inner Architecture

Kuboraum are masks designed on the face of those who wear them, masks that highlight personality and emphasize character. The mask is synonymous with mockery, with game.

The Kuboraum masks are synonymous with accentuation, protection and shelter. Kuboraum are like cubic rooms where we shelter ourselves, where we are free to live in our intimacy, where we live all our identities and look at the world through two lenses.

The brand was founded in Berlin in the rooms of a former post office on the border between east and west Berlin. The space that was originally converted into a gallery, immediately became the incubator for the creation of new projects. After various metamorphoses, today this place includes the studio, showroom and the Kuboraum flagship store.

From design to brand identity, from image to communication, from photo to video productions, from installations to interior design projects – all contents and all the magic here is developed under the direction of artist, sculptor, designer Livio Graziottin and anthropologist, brand, communciation & marketing director Sergio Eusebi.

All masks are entirely dreamed in Berlin and handmade in Italy.

Kuboraum eyewear is not an inanimate and inorganic object, but obtains the power of a mask. It changes the perception of self. Those who wear the Kuboraum mask, come to life and accept the challenge to free their identities. These masks represent cubic rooms, a new dimension where we can feel at ease, comfortable with ourselves and the world around us. Kuboraum is no logo. It is a mask with its own look and power, but as soon as you wear it, the mask doesn’t highlight itself, but it highlights the personality and features of the person wearing it, kuboraum’s identity is about this relationship.

Monumental, concrete and organic architecture, endless space, bodyscapes, liquid identities, amazement, yugen, ecology of minds, power of masks, satori, infinite languages, shamanic method.

The project started in february 2012 with the italian artisanal tradition implemented in a Berlin based creative environment. Hence, dreamed in Berlin and handmade in Italy.

Berlin Flagship Store and Studio

"When you get inside the space of Kopentcker Strabe 96, a shiver runs down your spine - suddenly the atmosphere becomes dense, the scent of unlit candles combined with the complete perception of light and darkness, reveal a 'Wunderkammer' in which every single little corner narrates a story."

The Kuboraum flagship store was inaugurated on July the 4th 2013. It is located between Mitte and Kreuzberg and is a former post office on the border between East and West Berlin. The space, that was originally converted into a gallery, immediately became the incubator for Kuboraum creative projects. After several metamorphoses, today this place includes studio, showroom and the storeitself. From designto brand identity, from image to communicaton, from photo to video productions, from installations to interior design projects - all contents and all the magic is developed here under the direction of Livio Graziottin and Sergio Eusebt.

Just as the former post office before, the space of four hundred square meters is divided into two secuons. The first is hosting the showroom and the shop and dedicated to the direct relationship of the brand, with the public; the other, which is open to the public only during events and exhibitions, includes the studio, the offices and the laboratory, which is located in the old post olffice caveau and is the only place where access to the public is restricted. This space, where designer Livio Graziottin realizes all the prototypes of the masks, also contains a photo studio where all the video and photographic productions of the brand are realized. The space also houses a warehouse and a room with an installation that represents the calendar of the brand.

The brand and all of its creations is a syncreusm of the past, the present and the future. The strict, icy, raw, geometric, atheist and minimal aesthetic, typical of Berlin, it's syncretized with the sacred redundant ritual aesthetic of a Tibetan temple.

This is a sort of work in progress project, where the installations and works of art by Livio Graziottin coexist with the monumentality of the oxidized iron intenors, intentionally produced for the store by De Castelli.

The mask-sculptures are placed on nine iron cubes of different sizes and heights made to resemble the skyline of Berlin. They are lit only by industrial spotlights, descending down from cube to cube to the metal grates, carcasses of which were once the ceiling of the old post office. Now the exposed electrical wires and the reinforced concrete are the Ideal setting of the entire space.

Unlit candles placed everywhere give a ritual dimension to the place, they seem to write the name of the brand on the wall letter after letter... candles are at the base of every window... small altar full of candles where from time to lime some are lit... candles are even on the mirrors and on the tables. There is also a room where a big cube of unlit candles stays in front of a white wall with some black signs, one sign for each day of the brand, as to symbolize the calendarof the brand itself.

When you come in the Kuboraum shop you are caught by its deep atmosphere and energy is which released from the place: crossing the threshold you feel an experience which is similar to that of a trip, a dream-like atmosphere in which you are in a close contact with the essence of the designer's work. The curtains at every window of the shop are very impressive, they are sculptures formed by thousand metallic frontal parts of glasses which are linked one with safety pins by Livio Graziottin. With the reflection of light they form shadows which draw new shapes on the floor and on the walls.

The whole of Köpenicker Straße 96 is a place of experimentation and development of the brand; here new pieces are projected, together with new designs, displays and installations, even the layouts of the windows for the clients and artistic projects with eyewear, which are often shown for the first time to the public during exhibitions and events. In this place magic, professionalism. artisanship, passion and art are bound by a great spirit of community together with a great sense of cultural belongings to the city of Berlin to which in a sense the whole project pays a tribute - think of the Manifesto Dreamed in Berlin...
