Pantelleria (from the Arabic word “Bint Ar-Riàh” – daughter of the Wind) is an island where Nature is free, spontaneous and authentic. Located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, this island is warmed by an intense sun and shaped by a strong wind. Here grows a rough, harsh and strong vegetation.

The particular biodiversity offers a large variety of plants with healthy properties, sweet fragrances and precious extracts. Time has given to this black and volcanic land powerful natural and mineral elements. From this land borns NERA’ PANTELLERIA, a brand with a strong personality: each product becomes a concentration of the essence of this beautiful island.

The Agricultural Farm

The agricultural farm Zighidì takes its name from the namesake disctrict and it is characterized by the energy of the island where it was born: Pantelleria. A hilly, windy and unique land that covers 4 hectares of spontaneous typical Mediterranean plants and shrubs: the prestigious vineyard of Zibibbo grape and the centuries-hold olive trees Cultivar Biancolilla – one of the most ancient Sicilian variety of olive trees.

A story of innovation and tradition that lasts for three generations. A story made of love for the land, harvesting, extraction but, above all, made of respect for the roots of this land. Here, born products with natural ingredients for the care and the beauty of the body. Our laboratories preserve and maintain intact the characteristics of our cultivations - and of the Sicilian Nature in general - to create products with the maximum efficiency, dedicated to demanding and specific market, as the one of the pharmacy.

It Borns From the Perfumes of Mediterranean Scrub

Volcanic Stone

Black sand: a concentration of the power of the volcano. The black sand extract with volcanic origins contains minerals and micro-elements that make it a functional ingredient for the sunscreens: it helps the skin after the sun exposure, remineralising and toning it.

Black Myrtle

The Myrtus communis is one of the most common shrub of the Mediterranean scrub and, in Sicily, it grows spontaneously. From Black Myrtle’s leaves, we obtain an extract enriched with tannins and vitamin C. Its formulation makes the myrtle an active ingredient, invigorating and antioxidant for the skin. *From organic farming.

Prickly Pear

From Opuntia ficus indica seeds we obtain a precious oil, enriched with polyunsaturated fatty acids that give nourishment and elasticity to the skin. It was Christopher Columbus that imported prickly pear plants in Europe. Over the centuries, the plant was widespread in the Mediterranean and, above all, in Sicily where it became rapidly a symbol of the Sicilian identity. Its centuries-hold cultivation has developed thanks to the warm sun and to the salty air that wind brings into the hinterland. The plants shape and colour Sicilian landscape, protecting and preserving it from wind and erosion.

Grapes Pips

From grape seeds (Vitis vinifera) we have extracted an oil enriched with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, polyphenols and vitamin E. This oil has a nourishing, soothing and anti-ageing  action and it helps to keep the skin radiant.

Mint

Sicilian mint grows spontaneous but also horticultural. Largely used for food preparation, it is recognizable thanks to its intense and characteristic aroma. In ancient times, it was used for its beneficial effects.The Mentha piperita essential oil, extracted from the leaves, has refreshing and invigorating properties.

Choose the Most Suitable Sunscreen for You

Sunbathing is healthy for body and mind, but it is important to protect our skin to prevent damages caused by the sunlight, even if we have dark skin or even if we do not sunbath for hours. To choose the right sunscreen we have to take into consideration our skin phototype: i.e. all the physical and individual characteristics (ethnicity, colour of eyes and hair, how quickly we have tan) related to our quantity of melanin.

We have a different physiological protection to the sun according to our phototype, so we have to choose the right sunscreen. When our phototype is low, it means that we have a minimal production of melanin; in this case we need a high sunscreen. Otherwise, when our phototype is high it means that we have more production of melanin, so the skin is more protected and we need a lower spf.

Even if there is a large number of guides about the phototypes, the best method to choose a correct sunscreen is to look how our skin reacts to the tan and the sun: even the darkest skin may burn easily.
