Tenuta Fertuna

Maremma Toscana

The History

Fertuna is the realization of the productive dream of a wine professional group with more than a century of experience. Different generations and various experiences have created this project aimed at the maturity.

We like referring the chosen name to the almost rarefied atmosphere you breathe. You feel the sense of a place suspended in time and space, pervaded by a magical sense. The Name is the combination between fertility (fertus) and fortune.

The Enterprise established in 1997 is engaged in the production of wines, IGP extra virgin oil and cereals of the best qualities. This zone, once cradle of Etruscan and then Roman civility, was already known in the past as an ideal place in which to live, to work the land and to make progress thanks to the richness of the territory position.

The Territory

Tenuta Fertuna is situated in the heart of the Maremma countryside, Tuscany, crowned with green hills of wild nature and infinite light spaces towards the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The place is simple and solitary, where the spontaneous vegetation and the one on which the hand of man has worked, without misusing, by designing just a vineyard amphitheatre, are the main characteristics.

Fertuna faces, for about 1Km, the path of “Antica Via Aurelia" traced by Romans in 3rd century B.C. allowing Rome to establish and to consolidate its rule. The Gulf of Follonica, Castiglione della Pescaia and Punta Ala are the frame completing a dream context.

The Concern

The Tenuta covers 145 hectares. The concern consisting of Villa, Cellar and Shed is situated in the heart of the Tenuta. The Villa was built in the early 1900s and it is being renovated.

In the cellar, with its modern accessories, the tradition and the construction simplicity are reflected.

The lamellar wood roof offers the perfect climate and insulation to develop at best the wine making operations. The structure is modular and the well placed technological layout allows everybody to have access. The wines are produced according to the traditional guidelines in an efficaciously managed clean environment. Nothing is left to chance and everything is perfectly harmonised with the surrounding nature.

In the Tenuta, a system of waste and rain water recovery is adopted; the wastes are handled in a rational way and recovered, where it is possible, in order to minimise the environmental impact. The agricultural Shed is the place where we store all the modern equipment used for an efficient wine management. Avant-garde tractors make the works in the fields easy. Today the cultural arrangement of Tenuta Fertuna foresees 50 hectares of vineyard, 10 hectares of oliveyard and 40 hectares of cereal growing invested in the cultivation of particular varieties for pasta-making.

Olive Oil

A part of the concern is dedicated to the cultivation of the olive trees for about 10 hectares immersing their birth in the time. This area is also shared by century-old olive trees and new plants. The varieties are Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo. Besides, there are 40 hectares dedicated to cereal growing with the best qualities of durum wheat.
