The Brand - Segway - The Story of Segway

How it Started

One day inventor Dean Kamen saw a young man in a wheelchair struggling to get over a sidewalk. He realized that the problem wasn't an ineffective wheelchair, it was that the world was built for people who could balance. Subsequently he and his team created the Independence IBOT Mobility System a self-balancing mobility device that enables users to climb stairs and negotiate uneven surfaces. After that, the thought arose that a balance machine had far-reaching possibilities for people with full mobility as well. Our inspiration for the name Segway came from the word segue, which is defined as to transition smoothly from one state to another. Segway transforms a person into an empowered pedestrian, allowing him/her to go farther, move more quickly and carry more.
 
How Dynamic Stabilization Works

If you stand up and lean forward, you won't fall on your face just like that. Your brain knows you are out of balance, because fluid in your inner ear shifts. It triggers you to put your leg forward and stop a possible fall.

Today, more and more people are using Segway as an eco-friendly alternative for many of the short journeys that are typically made by car. Besides that, zero-emissions are given off during operation, allowing you to ride your vehicle indoors as well.
 
The Story of Ninebot

Ninebot is a privately held company headquartered in Beijing, China. In 2015 Ninebot strategically merged with Segway, headquartered in Bedford, US. The combined company focuses on the research and development, design, manufacturing, distribution and sales of short-distance transportation products. The combined company has strategic headquarters in the US, The Netherlands and Beijing as well as manufacturing centers in the US and China. Segway and Ninebot are devoted to seamlessly connect robotic solutions to smart phones and integrate existing technologies and future concepts, such as voice interaction and facial recognition with its robotic products - products that will be highly interactive and encourage smarter living.

2002 – First Segway Personal Transporters (PT) are sold on Amazon.com

2005 – Segway Cross-Terrain Transporter is launched

2013 – Ninebot is established in Beijing, China

2014 – Segway three-wheel PT is launched - SE-3 Patroller, for the public safety market

2014 – Ninebot launches Ninebot E+

2015 – Segway and Ninebot join forces

2015 – Ninebot by Segway launches miniPRO and ONE E+

2016 – Ninebot by Segway launches ONE S2 - successor of Ninebot ONE E+

2016 – Segway Europe HQ is opened in Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Segway miniPLUS

The exclusive high-tech Segway miniPLUS is structurally re-engineered for maximum functionality. This one really gets you going, even when you're not riding it. Just take out the remote control from the integrated storage compartment, turn on the Follow Mode and have your vehicle follow you independently every step of the way. It's almost like having your own personal robot!

The self-balancing Segway miniPLUS can speed up to 20 km/h and is provided with premium technology for increased stability.

The Segway miniPLUS is equipped with IPX6 battery protection, which allows for safe usage under all weather conditions.

Ninebot by Segway KickScooter Series

The all new Ninebot by Segway KickScooter Series is a high-quality range of electric kickscooters with a lightweight aircraft grade aluminum alloy one-push folding frame. The many built-in hidden features allow their design to be unique in its cleanness. Simply push off and enjoy effortless traveling.

Thanks to the one-push folding system, all of the Ninebot by Segway KickScooters can be folded and unfolded in no time and stored easily, taking up a minimum amount of space.

An optional second high-power lithium battery allows for an extended traveling distance of up to 45km (28 miles). Use the cruise control option for even more rider comfort.

Segway Robot

Project Segway Robot is a collaboration of Segway Robotics, Intel and Xiaomi. Hardware expansion bay, SDK and applications unlock unlimited potential for developers and organizations to customize Segway Robot.

Xiaomi and Intel have added some innovative functionalities to the Ninebot by Segway miniPRO to transform it into a personal robot assistant, which you can ride but that can also navigate and follow you autonomously. Interact with the Segway Robot in a three dimensional way using the microphone array and face recognition features of the Intel RealSense camera.

Segway Robot has a ton of cool assets, like a fish-eye camera which allows you to shoot photos and videos from a wide angle and a hardware extension bay to which you can attach accessories such as robotic arms.
