Description

Ruffino - Since 1877 - Award Winning Wines from the Heart of Tuscany

Ruffino was born in 1877 in Pontassieve from the intuition of two cousins, Ilario and Leopoldo. Their ambition is that the wine appreciated in their lands can also please those who do not have the good fortune to be able to taste it every day, and live, perhaps, very far.

It was an immediate and swirling success, built on the goodness of the wines and on an entrepreneurial foresight in the uncommon times. In fact, the Ruffino cousins' wine was immediately liked so much, so that in 1895 in Bordeaux the gold medal was awarded at the Chianti Ruffino.

Successes follow each other and already at the beginning of the twentieth century these successes lead to identify Ruffino as a synonym of Italian wine in the world through Chianti. These are the years of the birth of a true icon of Italian enology, Riserva Ducale, which in 1927 celebrates one of the most illustrious admirers of Ruffino, the Duke of Aosta who had chosen this wine to lay the tables of the court of the Italy King.

Riserva Ducale is just one of the imprints left by Ruffino in the history of Italian enology, also marked by the iconic fiasco, the bottle symbol of the entire category of Chianti, known in the world thanks to Chianti Ruffino.

Chianti - D.O.C.G.

Chianti is perhaps Ruffino's most historically important wine. The first of the reds produced by Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino, the one that made the company known not only nationally, managing to find space in the then small US market. A red that over time has become an ambassador of Italian good taste, the flag of a tradition that has lasted for over a century. Respecting the best tradition, the Chianti di Ruffino is presented today with a special bottle, called “fiorentina”, with round shapes in memory of the flask. Until the 1970s it was in fact wine that was bottled in historic straw flasks. The maturation takes place in steel tanks only in order to enhance the floral and fruity notes.

Ruffino - Romitorio di Santedame  - Chianti Classico Gran Selezione - D.O.C.G. - Ruffino Estates - Classic Red

A wine in which ancestral wisdom and modern winemaking techniques have always been based: Romitorio di Santedame Chianti Classico Gran Selezione.

Tasting Notes

Fine and elegantly structured, the ripe red fruit is accompanied by hints of spices such as pepper and licorice. Refined and intense, it is suitable for long aging.

Pairings

Romitorio di Santedame is perfect for enhancing cured meats, aged cheeses, appetizers, first courses based on meat and red meat.

Tasting Notes

Ruby red quite intense to the eye while the nose is fruity and aromatic, with notes of cherry that blend with the floral of violet. In the mouth it is moderately structured, fresh, with good acidity and light tannins.

Pairing

For the whole meal, it goes well with typical Tuscan cuisine and in particular with aged cheeses, grilled and baked meats.

History

Chianti Vecchio has been since the first year of production, 1877, a selection of the best Chianti, dedicated to consumption on the occasion of special events: the birth of a male child, Sunday lunch eaten all together around the table. On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the Foundation, Ruffino decided to celebrate the pioneering vision of the founders, Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino, with the introduction of a Chianti Riserva Docg whose chic and refined retro look was inspired by its important " father ”, the Chianti Vecchio.

Chianti

Originally, Chianti generally indicated a Tuscan wine, white and red. Only since 1967 has Chianti indicated a Tuscan red wine with a predominantly Sangiovese appellation.

Chianti is a wine produced in all the Tuscan provinces, but not within the geographical territory of Chianti, where the wines produced there are called Chianti Classico.
