One Shot - Dive In
We make instant film for classic Polaroid cameras. We believe in making real photos, with a life after the shutter clicks. With our new line of Impossible cameras, we’re reinventing instant photography for the digital age.
A Brief History of The Impossible Project
The Beginning
When Polaroid announced the end of instant film in 2008, Impossible stepped in to buy the last remaining factory, days before it closed down. The machines had been dismantled, there were no formulas to follow and the supply chain had already been destroyed. If we wanted to keep instant photography alive, we had to reinvent instant film from scratch.
“Don’t undertake a project unless it’s manifestly important and nearly impossible.” - Edwin Land, founder of Polaroid
Eight years later, with the help of some incredible chemists, engineers and photographers, we’re the only people in the world who make original format instant film. We make film in both color and black and white, for Polaroid 600-type, SX-70 and Image/Spectra cameras, as well as large format 8x10 film. We also refurbish classic Polaroid cameras so they’re as good as new, and have introduced our own new range of Impossible cameras.
We believe in making real photos. Photos with a life after the shutter clicks. Photos that develop in the palm of your hand, ready to pin to the wall or give to a friend. That’s why we’ve spent eight years working on our film formula. It’s why we’re reinventing analog instant photography in a digital world.
Getting Started
If you’re new to the world of instant photography, here’s your guide on where to start.
Instant photography is more than just cameras and film; it’s a way to celebrate family, friendships, and once-in-a-lifetime moments. When you make a photo with a Polaroid camera, you turn a split-second into something you can have, hold onto, keep and share. You can put it on your wall, in your wallet, at your desk or even on the fridge. You make it real.
Taking a photo with a Polaroid camera and watching it develop in the palm of your hand isn’t just an experience.
It’s Magic
If you’re ready to make real photos, the first thing you’ll need is a Polaroid camera. The Polaroid 600 camera is straightforward and fun to use, and because of its simple point-and-shoot functionality, it’s the perfect camera for anyone starting out with instant photography. Next you’ll need some instant film; with our Impossible film for Polaroid 600 cameras you can start making instant photos in color and black & white straight away. As for what goes in the frame? That’s where you come in.
Instant Film - It’s All in The Frame
Whether it’s color, black and white, wide, or special edition – there are a world of possibilities waiting to develop.
i-Type Film - “I” Stands for Incredible.
Every instant camera needs a film to go with it, and our i-Type cameras have their own special i-Type film. It’s optimized for the OneStep 2, battery-free (which makes it easier on your wallet) and ready to roll.
600 Film - Point. Shoot. Share.
Just like the camera it goes with, 600 film is straightforward and easy to use. It comes in classic color and black & white versions, as well as a range of special editions, so there’s always a new way to put your life on film.
SX-70 Film Classic Camera. Classic Film.
The SX-70 was the world’s first truly instant camera, and it comes from a time when things moved a bit more slowly. Slower times, slower film speed. Don’t worry, it still develops as fast as our other film – it’s just a little more laidback about it.
Spectra Film
Polaroid might be best known for that classic, square frame, but there were a few other formats over the years. Spectra film is a widescreen version of their classic instant film, for when you absolutely, positively have to fit every single person in the shot. Accept no substitutes.
8x10 Film - One for the Pros
In 1973, Polaroid introduced 8x10, a manually-processed large format film which creates photos of incredible quality. It’s more complex than other instant film formats, but there’s nothing like it, which is why we’re still making it today, by hand, with no expense spared.

The SX-70 works a little differently to other Polaroid cameras. That's why it has its own special SX-70 film with a much lower ASA (that's how you measure film speed). Thanks to its greater manual controls and versatility, the SX-70 is super popular with artists, creatives, and people who use the word "aesthetics" a lot. Just remember to always shoot in...
