Uncompromising Clarity for Maximum Accuracy – The Lenses
Oakley's High-Definition Optics® (HDO®) offer optimum safety and performance to meet the inflexible needs of professional athletes who only want the clearest, sharpest and most precise vision. They offer a more faithful and accurate vision than conventional lenses, which magnify images and make objects appear in a different position than the real one. With HDO, Oakley lenses meet or exceed American National Standard Institute testing standards (the performance benchmark for the optical industry).
The clarity test measures the sharpness of images viewed through the lens. The refractive power test evaluates the distortion of vision by the lower lenses, which results in image magnification, while the prism test calculates how much the lenses deflect light and make objects appear displaced from their real position. These tests show how conventional lenses can impair vision.
HD Polarized Glare Protection with Uncompromising Clarity
A headache caused by reverberation can ruin your day. Golfers must deal with the reverberation of water hazards, bunkers and flat areas, which can affect their performance. A fishing trip can be completely unproductive when the blinding rays bounce off the water, preventing you from seeing the fish. Driving with reverb can be risky, and cyclists know full well how reverb can hide potholes and other road hazards. We developed Polarized lenses for the greatest athletes, but our technology is useful for everyone. Because glare doesn't matter if you're a sports champion, a weekend warrior, or just love being in the sun.
Less Thickness to See More
Polarized lenses filter out most of the glare, but not all polarized lenses are made the same. The best polarized lens is just that: a lens. Oakley's HD Polarized technology eliminates the need for glues and films that distort vision.
The Oakley Team
Our HD Polarized lenses fall into a category of their own. We use an accurate injection molding process to produce a complete, single layer lens. No glue, no overlaps, no unnecessary additions. Only the sharpest polarized lens in the world.
On the Same Wavelength
In sunglasses, any layer of material held together by the glue decreases clarity and increases distortion. This drop in performance makes it difficult to tell whether we are looking at the road or the sole of a shoe.
Both lenses of a pair of Oakley sunglasses are manufactured at the same time, to perfectly align and center the polarization axis. This solution prevents unwanted glare from sneaking through any part of the lens, distracting you.
Tests so Demanding That They Go Beyond What is Necessary
Oakley lenses are tested under extreme conditions to ensure unbeatable protection against mass moving objects and high speeds - protection that no other lens provides. We offer the ultimate in precision, dedication and creativity to serve world-class athletes and customers who use our eyewear in daily life. Our products and technologies not only offer unmatched performance and quality, but completely redefine the category.
Part of the secret is Plutonite®, the durable and optically pure material that makes up our lenses. In keeping with our spirit of high performance and innovation, we continue to deliver the best performing products on the planet. Impact protection that goes beyond what is necessary. For us it is a duty.
UV Protection - What You Don't See Could Blind You
UV rays, an invisible form of radiation, attack your retinas at a speed of nearly 300,000 kilometers per second.
Eye damage from UV rays includes cataracts, photokeratitis and pterygium. The damage caused by UV rays accumulates over time. Usually you are not able to feel the UV rays, so you do not perceive any natural alarm of the damage you are suffering. Although clouds reduce the level of UV rays received by your eyes, they do not completely block UV rays: your eyes are therefore exposed to UV rays even on overcast days.
Thermonuclear Protection
Plutonite®, the material of Oakley lenses, prevents the passage of ultraviolet radiation of any wavelength emitted by the thermonuclear source of the sun, not just the low-energy rays called "UVA". " Our clear lenses also filter out 100% of UV rays. The image on the left shows how harmful rays are blocked while the visible spectrum is able to pass through the lenses.
Sport Specific OTD Lenses - Progressive Prescription Sun Lenses, Optimized for Sport
Progressive lenses help you focus on both near and far objects. Each sport has its specific needs for areas of focus for low, medium and high range objects.
Specifically designed for specific sports, the sports-specific OTD progressive lenses minimize performance in every focus area to give you the best possible vision for golf, cycling and fishing.
Unlimited Prescription Lenses
If you've been told your prescription doesn't fit the sunglasses you want, try OTD Edge ™. This technology increases the prescription range for Oakley wraparound sunglasses to + 4.00 / -6.00 to give you the benefits you expect from Oakley sunglasses, such as extended peripheral vision and increased side protection.
