Petra - The Wonderful Story of a Female Challenge

The memory of nature has deep roots. Francesca Moretti was still at university when the first vine varietals were planted: she was the one who chose, on the basis of an already clear vision, what to grow on this terroir, extremely suitable but ready for a new reinterpretation, and her choice favoured international varieties, in addition to sangiovese and vermentino varieties, the start of a path which was already pointing to the highest levels of delightfulness and contemporaneity. Two centuries earlier, Elisa Bonaparte, too, had planted cabernet-sauvignon and Merlot grapes in a 5-hectares plot which later became known as the Princess Vineyard. A circle that closes in our times, with the project that has been lovingly planned by Francesca, to recreate the historical Vineyard in the places that saw her grow up. The Princess Elisa’s Gardens is included in this, a collection of aromatic herbs which faithfully reproduces the original plan, on a panoramic terrace adjacent to the winery, according to the illustration of the historical botanist Paolo Tomei, from the University of Siena.

Near the ancient village of Suvereto, land of the suvere, majestic oaks produce cork on the iron hills of the Val di Cornia and with a glimpse of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It’s here, in the spectacular nature of the Maremma, that the magic of Petra was born.

A real cru from which the Merlot grapes with which the wine is produced come.

Quercegobbe is located in an ideal position, on the edge of the Mediterranean maquis but close to the cellar, on a well-ventilated hill overlooking the sea.

Tasting Notes

Very concentrated ruby ​​color. Wide and intriguing nose, first in the fruity notes of blueberries, raspberries, black cherries and plums, then in the Mediterranean component of myrtle, rosemary and licorice.

Tasting - Aroma Taste Perfume

Dense body, rich overall, soft, with smooth tannins. As vigorous as it is balanced, it is an impactful red that does not betray expectations.

Production Method - Sun, Wind and Voked Soils

The precious threads of the past weave a modern texture.

The production method is rigorously aimed at defending the territorial connotation.

It ferments in truncated conical oak vats and ages for 15 months, partly in new 600-liter demi muid and partly in second passage barriques. Finally, it is left to rest in the bottle for a further 10 months.

Tasting Notes

Very concentrated ruby ​​color. The nose reveals a broad and highly appealing picture in the initially fruity notes of blueberries in jam, dehydrated raspberries, black cherries in syrup, prunes, then a noble vegetable component of myrtle, rosemary and more licorice, cinnamon and pepper. Dense body in the mouth, rich overall, soft, with round, silky tannins and balanced freshness. Persistent aftertaste and consistent with the aromas of the nose.
