Ruffino - Since 1877 - Award Winning Wines from the Heart of Tuscany
Ruffino was born in 1877 in Pontassieve from the intuition of two cousins, Ilario and Leopoldo. Their ambition is that the wine appreciated in their lands can also please those who do not have the good fortune to be able to taste it every day, and live, perhaps, very far.
It was an immediate and swirling success, built on the goodness of the wines and on an entrepreneurial foresight in the uncommon times. In fact, the Ruffino cousins' wine was immediately liked so much, so that in 1895 in Bordeaux the gold medal was awarded at the Chianti Ruffino.
Successes follow each other and already at the beginning of the twentieth century these successes lead to identify Ruffino as a synonym of Italian wine in the world through Chianti. These are the years of the birth of a true icon of Italian enology, Riserva Ducale, which in 1927 celebrates one of the most illustrious admirers of Ruffino, the Duke of Aosta who had chosen this wine to lay the tables of the court of the Italy King.
Riserva Ducale is just one of the imprints left by Ruffino in the history of Italian enology, also marked by the iconic fiasco, the bottle symbol of the entire category of Chianti, known in the world thanks to Chianti Ruffino.
Pinot Grigio - Tuscany I.G.T. - La Solatia Estate
A variety of the North meets the Tuscan soil to give life to a unique union. A white of great pleasure, simple but with a great personality.
Behind The Wine
Tenuta La Solatìa is located near Monteriggioni, in the Chianti Colli Senesi area. The land of the estate is characterized by the wealth of limestone and fossil material, inherited from the distant Pliocene (about 3 million years ago) during which this area was part of a wider sea. This characteristic soil gives the Pinot Grigio pleasant mineral scents that perfectly complement the typical pear and almond notes of the vine.
La Solatia is the only Ruffino estate with attitudes of the associated vineyards and winery technologies exclusively for the production of quality white wines.
In the world Pinot Grigio is considered the Italian white par excellence. This is due to its great versatility that allows both to obtain simple whites, fresh and of great pleasure, as well as wines with coppery tones, rich in bouquet and great longevity.
The village of Monteriggioni, built as a fortress by the Sienese on the Via Francigena to oversee this important route, is one of the most typical and best preserved examples of Tuscan medieval town. Famous for the beautiful towers that surmount the walls, Monteriggioni (which "towers crown") is also mentioned by Dante in the XXXI canto dell'Inferno.
Tuscany I.G.T.
La Solatìa Pinot Grigio falls into the Tuscany category I.G.T.
This means that:
- the grapes can be grown and vinified in any area of Tuscany
- the varieties used can be chosen from over 70 authorized
- freedom is guaranteed with regard to winemaking and refining techniques
In the last decades the freedom of choice ensured by the Toscana IGT category has allowed considerable experimentation. If in some cases this has led to rather impromptu offers, on other occasions it has led to the discovery of the true vocations of certain areas or to the application of new wine-making and refinement methodologies.
The results obtained include La Solatìa Pinot Grigio in this second group, as it undoubtedly offers an excellent and original representation of the territory of origin.
