History
1877, in the village of Pontassieve, just outside Florence, two gentlemen founded the Ruffino winery. Their names are Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino, their dream to create the "ideal wine".
1890, the Duke of Aosta nominates Ruffino as official supplier of his noble tables thanks to the extraordinary quality of his Chianti Stravecchio.
1894, the Chianti Ruffino receives the gold medal in Bordeaux. An extraordinary case of Italian wine awarded in the French territory.
1927, the Duke and Chianti Stravecchio become an inseparable duo: Riserva Ducale is born.
1945, the story of Ruffino intersects with that of Italy. During the Second World War the cellars of Pontassieve are exchanged for the nearby station and destroyed by bombing.
1947, Ruffino produces the first vintage of Riserva Ducale Oro, prestigious further selection of its most ambitious wine. A wine produced only in the best years, refined for a long time and to drink after many years. A revolutionary concept for Tuscany at the time.
At the end of the '40s Ruffino acquired the properties of Poggio Casciano and Montemasso, thus undertaking the ambitious project of owning estates in the most prestigious Tuscan areas.
The '50s and' 60s are a difficult period in Italy, with the first reconstruction and the breakup of the sharecropping system then.
In these years Ruffino is a symbol of the Dolce Vita in Italy and abroad, where his wines reach over 100 countries and cheer the tables of Charles De Gaulle, King Gustav of Sweden and Queen Elizabeth.

An exclusive property that still holds: the Fiorentina bottle, whose shape pays tribute to the flask and pleasantly also recalls the dome of the Florence Cathedral.
1984, Chianti becomes a DOCG and, almost like a sign of destiny, it is a bottle of Chianti Ruffino to bring the first band, the number AAA00000001.
The 90s are a moment of splendor for Tuscan wines and also for Ruffino, which is a good symbol. The grandiose Colorino of Santedame gives life to the Romitorio and Modus is born, destined in the coming years to represent wonderfully the Supertuscan category.
Today Ruffino is a modern reality, owned by the American multinational Constellation Brands, whose wines can be tasted in over 90 countries.
For many Chianti means ChiantiRuffino, Riserva Ducale has recently made 80 vintages and is one of the best known Italian reds in the world while Modus has been included in the world ranking of the 100 best wines.

Dalle uve selezionate alla raccolta sono stati ottenuti mosti e vini base che, sapientemente uniti in blend, sono stati vinificati secondo il metodo Charmat, che consiste in una ri-fermentazione naturale in tank d'acciaio pressurizzate. The grapes selected at the harvest were vinified according to the Charmat method, which consists of a natural re-fermentation in pressurized steel tanks. This process, which lasts about a month, develops and preserves the fruity aromas typical of the Glera grape.
From organic grapes entirely produced in the vineyards of the Poderi Ducali di Ruffino Veneto estates. The soils of the La Duchessa estate are rich in clay which gives elegance and acidity to the wine, while the sandy soils of Ca 'del Duca give minerality and freshness, all fundamental characteristics and perfect for an excellent and pleasant prosecco.
