Description

Zu Plun - Distillates from The Dolomites

“It is not necessary to be crazy to distill a great liquour, but it helps immensely”. A 14th-century document already mentioned the Plunhof at Siusi allo Sciliar (Seis am Schlern). In the past, the company was part of the land properties of the Hauenstein Castle and was therefore owned by no less than poet Oswald von Wolkenstein. Yet not even his vivid fantasy might have imagined that world-class and internationally famous fine spirits and fruit liquours would be born here, 1000 metres above sea level.

Today, Zu Plun is the distillery of the Dolomites that makes gins, rhums, liquours and grappas using mountain ingredients. The Dol Gin, made with Dolomitic plants, is certainly the one that best represents this area. There are many traces of this region in this liquour. The one that is probably most suited to the current trends is the Yellow Gin, in which the juniper aroma is enriched with the essence of lemons from the Garda region. The Grenoir is made with pomegranate, and finally the Salz Gin is enriched with salt and oysters.

Our Gin

The Zu Plun Gin is distilled only from herbs and ingredients grown in the Dolomites. The herbs typically used in the production of gin are reasonably replaced or integrated with herbs grown in the Dolomites, after an accurate study carried out by the local chemist. The secret that lies behind the high quality of the product is easy to explain: wildings and herbs growing in the area of Schlern Mountain and the indispensable lemon zest from Garda Lake.

Zu Plun

The secret of the high quality of Zu Plun gin is soon said: wild plants and herbs grown in the Sciliar region and the inevitable lemon zest that comes from Lake Garda.

Zu Plun - Dol Gin - Special Edition - Gin - Distillates from The Dolomites - High Quality - Liqueurs and Spirits

The first Gin distilled in the Dolomites with 24 alpine herbs, lemon from Garda Lake and elderflower.

DOL GIN. With the first gin distilled in the Dolomites, the distillation master at Zu Plun has followed up on witch myths revolving around the Sciliar region. Plenty of old herb knowledge is hidden in this distillation, whose ingredients – with the exception of the lemon rind from Lake Garda – are grown in the Dolomites and on the Alpe di Siusi. Apart from juniper and 24 mountain herbs, its processing also includes fruit stems, blossoms and roots of the mystical elder shrub. The resulting excellent quality is no longer a secret; indeed it has received numerous international awards, as well as being selected as best Italian gin by Gambero Rosso. The Dolomite Gin, to the nose, already reveals a full bouquet of fresh juniper, mountain herbs and freshly ground pepper. To the palate it develops a fruity tang with discreet bitter notes from the gentian root. Harsh, ragged, wild and extremely delicate – because the distillation master Rabanser is convinced that gin from the Dolomites should not taste of vanilla and tropical fruits.
