Description

It seems that this Rosolio was created by the Medici family who jealously kept the recipe. Leone X and Clemente VII, both part of the Medici family, were both gluttonous of it and they called it “Elixir of Long Life”; while in France, where it seems to have been brought by Maria de’ Medici and her alchemist Ruggieri, it was known with the name of “Liquor de’ Medici”.

It became widespread thanks to the friars of Santa Maria Novella.

The ingredients include cochineal, that is the dried body of an insect that live on cacti.

The scarlet color derived from this insect was used by ancient people to dye fabrics, while nowadays it is rarely used to paint beverages.

This insect, in Spanish is called “alquermes” (from arabic qirmiz “scarlet”),from which it derives the name of the liquor.

Liquor that we propose with the ancient original recipe, to not be confused with alchermes that may be found on liquor stores and that are mostly prepared with chemical aromas and essences.

This typical liquor is used in pastrys to prepare Pesche di Prato, Zuppa Inglese and the Gattò. In delicatessen shop to prepare the Mortadella di Prato.

It may be served at any time of the day as refreshness or digestif, we are sure that its pleasant taste will surprise you.

Ingredients: Neutral Alcohol, water, orange peel, cinnamon, coriander, cochineal (dye: E120 Coccus cacti l.), Mace, cardamom, cloves, star anise, vanilla, sugar.

Alcool 35 % vol.
