“It is not necessary to be crazy to distill a great liquour, but it helps immensely”. A 14th-century document already mentioned the Plunhof at Siusi allo Sciliar (Seis am Schlern). In the past, the company was part of the land properties of the Hauenstein Castle and was therefore owned by no less than poet Oswald von Wolkenstein. Yet not even his vivid fantasy might have imagined that world-class and internationally famous fine spirits and fruit liquours would be born here, 1000 metres above sea level.

Today, Zu Plun is the distillery of the Dolomites that makes gins, rhums, liquours and grappas using mountain ingredients. The Dol Gin, made with Dolomitic plants, is certainly the one that best represents this area. There are many traces of this region in this liquour. The one that is probably most suited to the current trends is the Yellow Gin, in which the juniper aroma is enriched with the essence of lemons from the Garda region. The Grenoir is made with pomegranate, and finally the Salz Gin is enriched with salt and oysters.

A grappa with a full, round flavor; a complex taste with a strong flowery aroma, obtained from the marcs of the vineyards in the Termeno region.

Gewürztraminer Grappa Old stands out with all the typical features of the basic distillate: a full-bodied, multi-layered Grappa with an intense flowery bouquet, produced using pomace from the areas around the wine village of Termeno.

Gewürztraminer Grappa Old is the original answer by Zu Plun to the long-debated question of the real origin of this famous vine variety, in the sense that the specialty produced using pomace from the Termeno area is consciously subjected to new influences – and stored for at least three years in oak barrels, which were used for the lush sweet wine of Sauternes before. The flowery-fruity bouquet and unique sensorial characteristics are accompanied by tones of oak, which give this distillation a special full-bodied, harmonious tang.

It is best served at room temperature, ideally with chocolate refined using sea salt but also with mature hard cheese, nuts and dried fruit. It is also worth trying Moscato Grappa Old with cognac in cocktail classics such as the Old Fashioned

Suggestion

Gewürztraminer Grappa Old is best served and enjoyed in a tumbler rather than in a cognac or even a grappa, and always at room temperature. A Negroni will get an extra kick with a shot of Gewürztraminer Grappa Old. It is also worth tasting together with marinated goose liver.
