Frantoio Muraglia - A Five Generations Story
I DO IT IN MY WAY. I'VE BEEN THAT WAY SINCE I WAS LITTLE. WHAT I DID AND HOW I DID IT WAS NOBODY'S BUSINESS BUT MY OWN.
Frantoio Muraglia Story
Frantoio Muraglia was born in Andria, capital of the Apulia oil region, five generations ago, but our real family patriarch has watched the seasons come and go for no fewer than 450 years – a majestic coratina olive-tree, a native cultivar whose wealth of polyphenols is almost unmatched among the 538 classified Italian varieties. Our history as oil producers begins with this green giant that stands tall over our olive groves – some 40 hectares in the uplands of Murgia. It was Savino Muraglia senior who bought this tree to press its olives for oil, defying all those who told him there was no fortune to be made from land and olives. As to who had the right of it, only time will tell!
Frantoio Muraglia - Intense Fruity Oil - Essenza - Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil - High Quality
“Essenza” Intense Fruity is our extra virgin olive oil exclusively made from Coratina variety olives grown in Apulia.
With our “Essenza” line, here at Frantoio Muraglia we are going back to the essential that has always been at the heart of our work: oil. Essence means oil of the highest quality in pret-à-gourmet clothing; extra virgin oil which is elegant but democratic in its appeal.
“Essenza” Intense Fruity is an extra virgin olive oil produced using only Coratina olives. The character of this finely crafted oil is expressed in notes of thistle and artichoke leaves, with slowly emerging spicy tones typical of this cultivar.
Intense Fruity Monocultivar Coratina Olive
Coratina variety olives are the ultimate expression of the land here in Apulia. They give a robust olive oil, as rustic and true as those who cultivate it. Our Intense Fruity is an olive oil at once spicy and with just a hint of astringency. Its unique characteristic is that it contains three times the antioxidant polyphenols of any other olive oil.
This oil enhances traditional dishes for the modern palate. It is perfect for raw vegetables, salads and vegetable soups.
A rich deep green with shades of gold, it is perfumed with irrepressible notes of dill, fennel, artichoke, pepper and hay. In the mouth, it unleashes a riot of vegetable tones; powerful, rich, cut through with phenols perfectly integrated into its structure – a wonderfully balanced taste. Imposing, its closing notes are deliciously spicy and it has a long finish of vegetable tones.
Coratina Olives from The Land of The Great Oils
“CORATINA IS THE ULTIMATE EXPRESSION OF A LAND OF GREAT OLIVE OILS. POWERFUL. ASTONISHING. DOWN TO EARTH. AUTHENTIC. I’m grateful to Savino Muraglia because he has managed to restore dignity to this cultivar, which reflects so many aspects linked to a people and their land, and which therefore cannot but be spicy with a bitter overtone at the same time. It is characterised in that it contains three times the antioxidant poliphenols of any other variety of olive oil. I MUST ADMIT THAT I WOULD FIND IT HARD TO COOK ANYTHING WITHOUT THIS OLIVE OIL IN MY KITCHEN.
When I think of coratina I recall my grandmother’s bread served “all’acquasale”. Stale bread soaked in cold water, salt and a lot of fresh vegetables. That’s when you realise that coratina can introduce modern palates to old dishes.
RAW VEGETABLES AND SALADS ARE PERFECT, BUT LEGUME SOUPS ARE IN A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN”
