La Plus Ancienne Maison de Champagne
History
Maison Ruinart was founded on 1 September 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart. His uncle, the learned Benedictine monk Dom Thierry Ruinart had a brilliant intuition, developing the conviction that this new “vin de mousse”, born from the vineyards of his province and appreciated by the European royal courts, was destined for a great future.
The creation of the Maison Ruinart coincided with the dawn of the Enlightenment in France and the French art de vivre where the Ruinart cuvées naturally found their place.
The Maison, constantly in search of excellence and the absolute, chose Chardonnay, a rare and delicate grape, as the guiding thread for all its cuvées.
Strengthened by its three centuries of history, the prestigious Maison has never ceased to strengthen the excellence of its wines, recognizable among a thousand thanks to their bottle with such a particular shape.
Noble Raw Material
Among the seven grape varieties authorized for the production of champagne, Chardonnay stands out for its delicate fragility. Its elegance and aromatic freshness make it the most emblematic grape variety for the Maison Ruinart.
The elegance and aromatic freshness of Chardonnay make it the golden thread that runs along the taste of the Maison.
This noble grape variety comes mainly from the Cote des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims, terroirs rich in chalk that offer ideal conditions for growing vines.
Technical Gesture
There are specific techniques that characterize the history of the Maison Ruinart and reveal the essential character of an exceptional experience.
The network of galleries on several levels welcomes the Ruinart production, an infinite expanse of bottles in silent and patient refinement, ready to reveal what the maison has in mind for its future.
The Maison's gypsum quarries, dating back to the Gallo-Roman era, resemble underground chalk cathedrals. These majestic cellars were classified as a historical monument in 1931.
Spread over three bright white floors, they offer a total absence of vibrations and constant temperature and humidity conditions, ideal for fermentation and maturation of Ruinart cuvées.
Sustainability at The Center of Company Philosophy
Since 1729, the first Maison de Champagne has found the origins of its exceptional wines in the processing of terroir and ancestral savoir-faire.
In addition to being a necessity, sustainable development plays a fundamental role for Ruinart as a source of innovation and creative engine.
Nowadays, in response to current environmental challenges, the company has consolidated its commitment to the protection of living land and the transmission of savoir-faire and tradition.
