Parisian Fragrance Art Since 1961

Diptyque stands as one of the most iconic names in contemporary artistic perfumery. Founded in Paris in 1961, the Maison embodies a unique creative universe where fragrances, candles, and home objects become expressions of art, memory, and emotion.

The Origins: Paris and Creative Freedom

Diptyque was born from the meeting of three visionary friends: Christiane Gautrot, Desmond Knox-Leet, and Yves Coueslant. Artists, travelers, and lovers of culture, they opened a boutique in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the intellectual heart of Paris.

Originally devoted to fabrics and decorative objects, the boutique soon became a creative space where fragrance emerged as a new artistic language.

A New Vision of Perfumery

Diptyque reshaped traditional perfumery by creating fragrances inspired by memories, journeys, and atmospheres. Each scent unfolds as an olfactory narrative, free from conventions and rigid hierarchies.

Candles: A Timeless Icon

Diptyque candles have become a global reference in scented design. Crafted with high-quality waxes and complex fragrances, they transform spaces into refined and intimate sensory experiences.

In Paris in the early 1960s, the Saint-Germain district was alive with lively nights in clubs, where jazz was played and artists met. People discussed the world, danced, and laughed in a lively, sparkling, and sophisticated atmosphere... Orphéon was one of these bars, whose joyful effervescence the three founders of diptyque loved to meet near their...
Yves Coueslant, one of the founders of the Maison, spent his childhood summers in Do Son, in Ha Long Bay. The sea breeze carried with it the heady, spicy scent of tuberoses. Do Son embodies the persistence and intensity of the memory of a childhood spent in Indochina. A floral memory full of voluptuousness.
How to celebrate Paris? By diptyque, only chypre this mythical multi-faceted accord was able to pay homage to this multifaceted city. A bouquet of opulent roses replaces the freshness of bergamot quilted with pink pepper. Creative freedom claimed: no musk here but patchouli.
Drawing inspiration from a Greek myth, Eau de Minthé reinterprets an emblem of perfumery, the fougère accord, through mint. At the heart of the composition, its aromatic freshness enhances the bright and floral notes of the geranium, while the patchouli gives depth.
Top Notes Fig leaf and fig; Heart Notes Green Notes and Coconut; Base Notes Fig Tree, Woody Notes and Cedar Wood.
A hymn to travel and vanilla. Promises of dreams and distant horizons, Eau Duelle transports the original vanilla pod on the spice route. Proceeding through legendary ports of call, Goa, Carthage, Venice, Babylon, its perfume is enriched with new scents: the bright and addictive accents of calamus contrast with the dark and smoky nuances of cypriol.
In the 1960s, a perfume changed the world: patchouli. Tempo pays homage to it with three extracts of this essence that give rhythm to the composition of their nuances, sometimes woody and decisive, other earthy or enveloping. Sublimated by violet leaves, Tempo vibrates with a surprising refinement.
The story of a dream, of a placid river, of a summer nap under a weeping willow... Roses and blackcurrant berries picked and brought together in a perfume: the vegetal green of the blackcurrant leaves, the fruity and acidic accents of the buds and the floral intensity of the rose. A snapshot of the natural world, waiting to be experienced.
Memory of the sacred forests of Indochina: the velvety, milky and slightly spicy smell of sandalwood that was burned in the temples. Yves Coueslant, one of the founders of the Maison, has never forgotten this childhood perfume with notes of Mysore sandalwood refreshed by the perenniality of cypress and myrtle.

In Diptyque's holiday tale, imagination illuminates winter. As the pages turn, the landscape miraculously transforms to gold. The black and gold sheath and label of the eau de parfum echo the story with a three-dimensional glow. An ideal offering for the end of the year.
